Getting Setup

The following steps will walk you through signing up for the Best Buy Affiliate Program.


Step 1: Register for Affiliate Program

The following link will gather key data necessary to sign you up for the program. Once you have completed the form, you will receive an Impact Partner ID that is your unique identifier in the network.

Step 2: Notify us of your Impact Partner ID

Please submit the contact form with the following information from your application to complete the registration process.

  • Your Impact Partner ID
  • Company Name
  • Contact Name
  • Contact Email


Step 3 (optional): Get a Best Buy API Key

Use our APIs to get the most recent product, price and availability information. If you would like access to API data you will need an API key. It's easy. Just visit Get API Key and sign up with your email address. We'll send you an email with instructions on how to activate your new key.

Step 4: Add Your Impact Partner ID to Your Queries

As an affiliate, you must add the Impact Partner ID to your queries to receive credit for a customer purchase. Your Impact Partner ID can be found first by going to the Impact Dashboard interface and looking at your Account information.

Below is an example of a Best Buy Products API query and reference attributes to BESTBUY.COM including an example IPID=Impact Partner ID or IPID=1234567

By doing this, you will receive two important attributes in the Best Buy Products API response:

  • affiliateUrl - This link directs the visitor to the BESTBUY.COM product detail page and tracks referral sales to your Impact Partner ID.

What is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing is an online advertising channel in which advertisers (online merchants that sell products or services) pay publishers (independent parties that promote the products or services of an advertiser on their Web site) only for results, such as a visitor making a purchase or filling out a form, rather than paying simply to reach a particular audience. This "pay-for-performance" model is in essence the modern version of the "finders'-fee" model, where individuals who introduce new clients to a business are compensated. The difference in the case of affiliate marketing is that advertisers pay their publishers only when the new client introduction results in a sale or a lead, making it a low-risk, high-reward environment for both parties.


How do I sign up?

You can sign up for the Best Buy Affiliate Program through our partnership with Impact. An affiliate marketing company, Impact has technology that will allow you to track your BESTBUY.COM sales and earn commissions on the BESTBUY.COM purchases that you generate through your links.

How will Best Buy communicate with me?

You may occasionally hear directly from one of our team members at Best Buy. As a commitment to our affiliates, we have assigned more resources to making the Best Buy Affiliate Program a top program in the Impact network. We have a wide variety of promotional banners and text links, a specific redirect link (so you can link to individual products), a robust product catalog, and open APIs. When will I get paid?

Best Buy pays its affiliates monthly. Best Buy extends all transactions each month, so your initial payment for Best Buy sales will come 60 days after your first Best Buy sale (for example, for sales that post in January, you will be paid in late March). The Best Buy Affiliate Program issues checks for total earned commissions at no minimum.


When will Best Buy orders post to my publisher account?

The Best Buy Affiliate Program offers near-real-time reporting where affiliates can view sales/orders that have been placed. Please note that monthly payments may vary from affiliate reporting due to cancellations, returns, and removal of fraudulent orders.


How does Best Buy account for returns or cancellations?

Best Buy batches in returns and canceled orders daily the day after they are processed at Best Buy. The return/cancellation rate is quite low, since Best Buy only submits shipped orders into the Best Buy Affiliate Program.


How does Best Buy handle missing order requests?

Missing orders are reviewed twice a month. Best Buy reviews missing orders that are entered into Best Buy Affiliate Program’s Transaction Inquiry Manager. Per the Best Buy Special Terms and Conditions, Best Buy only reviews missing orders that are 90 days old or newer.


What is the policy for search publishers?

Brand and trademark bidding are not allowed in the Best Buy Affiliate Program. We highly recommend that affiliates make the Best Buy brand (as well as any misspellings) a negative match in search campaigns. When you accept the program term in the Best Buy Affiliate Program, you are also agreeing to our search policy. Please review it carefully prior to accepting the program terms to ensure that you will abide.

Will I earn commissions on qualifying orders placed through mobile phones and apps?

Yes. Best Buy pays commissions on qualifying orders placed through mobile phones and apps, and when a customer goes through an approved tracking link.


What do I need to do to use the Buying Options API?

If an affiliate partner would like to use the Buying Options API there are some guidelines they will want to follow to ensure they receive their affiliate credit. Currently there is NOT a way to pass IPID into the Buying Options API. This is something we are investigating for the future. An affiliate can use the Buying Options API to identify available offers but will need to make a secondary call to our Products API using their IPID to generate the appropriate affiliate Impact urls. It is also not possible to use the addToCartUrl or affiliateAddToCartUrl with the expectation that you are adding Open Box product to the cart (as opposed to a new product) without special javascript added to your page. If you are interested in doing this please contact us and we can provide examples and guidance.
